Of Ninety Years a Trace

Emily on the shore,
watching with a mother’s care
her child at play.

Sky too dark.
House too near to clear the waves.

No more to say of time or place,
though once, I’m told,
an Emily saw me through
what dreams now only hint,
and memory has had the grace
to lose along the way.
